The county of Empúries
This route enables you to cover some of the territory that during the Middle Ages made up part of the old county of Empúries, such as the castros ('castle' in Latin) of Bellcaire d'Empordà, La Tallada and Verges. The disagreements between the Count of Empúries and the Catalan crown, to which the royal town of Torroella de Montgrí belonged, meant that the territory underwent considerable changes... (+)
